Irena Popiashvili and Marisa Newman of SUITE 106 are pleased to announce the
first solo exhibition of artist Michael Dee. In the show, …You’ve Heard It All Before, Dee explores the lure of white noise created through failed systems. Malfunctioning equipment and random methods produce sounds and images, which are either removed or avoided in the production of contemporary consumer products. These sounds and images exude tense and novel qualities placing them outside the realm of radio and video entertainment. The exhibition consists of a 51 second video loop entitled The Big Ending, enamel video still paintings, and an interactive sound station.
Michael Dee is a graduate of Kent University in Ohio. He had the project room at SUITE 106’s hotel space in February 2002. Dee’s work was also shown in “Monitor: Volume I,” at Gagosian Chelsea’s summer 2001 group exhibition.
