SUITE 106 Gallery is pleased to announce the solo-exhibition of Atlanta-based artist Michael Gibson. Gibson will be exhibiting a series of large-scale paintings reminiscent of Warhol’s earth-toned camouflages. "Pattern Memory," the title of the show, is borrowed from a psychological term, which describes how the mind recalls an entire memory from a partial sensory cue, in this case visual.

Gray, and black, but then adds delicate orbital of white light, which is characteristic of his earlier work. The title of the exhibition evokes more than just the arrangement of shapes on a canvas. These paintings challenge the viewer’s sensations and perceptions, producing visual experiences that are complex, subtle and arresting. Gibson’s paintings employ a simple vocabulary of colors and abstract shapes to generate sensations of movement, light and space. Each canvas incorporates these qualities, but is made unique by variations in motif and color, as can be seen in such works as "Pattern Memory" and "Veil". The composition of Pattern Memory is created with softer hues and circular shapes, while Veil is composed of typical military colors and sharper lines. Although Gibson applies the paint with a brush, he does it so meticulously that the result is a seamless surface.

Michael Gibson is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He received his BFA at the University of Georgia and is represented by the Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta. He has recently exhibited in group shows at James Graham & Sons, and Artists Space in New York and at the Atlanta Biennia.
