SUITE 106 Gallery is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition of New York-based artist Mark Woods. Woods will be exhibiting 10 Edgewater – a series of photographs that were completed this summer. The nine works in the exhibition are diptychs depicting two scenes from the address 10 Edgewater Drive in Greenwich, Connecticut. In each diptych a Norman Rockwell-esque scene of the artist’s family life from 1966 is juxtaposed with the same photographic perspective, 35 years later, emptied of the people and characters.
Woods’s first exhibition at the gallery, Access, dealt with the formal and philosophical workings of the camera and photography. This current series shows the artist’s continued fascination with the camera’s ability to perfectly recreate and recapture a moment while incorporating a personal narrative of his family life.
Mark Woods received an AB in philosophy at Harvard and his MFA in photography at Arizona State University. In 2002 he had a MacDowell Colony Fellowship and a Yaddo residency which he was awarded again in 2003.
